Public Invited to Meet Competitors and Support the Race to Recover America’s Missing Children

PEACHTREE CITY (September 19, 2011) – The 2011 Chevrolet Fireball Run Adventurally and Race to Recover America’s Missing Children will be pulling in to Peachtree City on Tuesday, September 27. The Road Rally is an event filmed over eight days with participants stopping along the over 2,500 miles they travel to solve clues and complete missions, driving everything from Lamborghini’s to Camaro’s to the Time Car from Back to the Future. Think of it as Amazing Race meets motoring. While they are in Peachtree City the public will have the opportunity to meet the competitors and get up close to their unique vehicles at an event, Finish Line Frenzy, hosted by the Peachtree City Convention and Visitor’s Bureau.

This year the Adventurally features notable drivers such as NASCAR legend Geoff Bodine, Space Shuttle Astronaut Winston Scott, as well as Actor Kevyn Major Howard. The public is invited to meet these competitors and more as the cross the Finish Line in Peachtree City on Tuesday, September 27 from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. The “Finish Line Frenzy” event will take place at Shakerag Knoll off McIntosh Trail. Competitors will arrive in the parking lot and spectators will be able to cheer them on as they complete one final task before crossing the finish line. This is a free event. Refreshments will be available for purchase with funds benefiting local Boy Scout Troop #175. In addition, Speedway Children’s Charity will be on hand collecting toys associated with speed as part of the event.

On Wednesday, September 28, the public is invited to join with competitors at The Avenue at Peachtree City for the green flag ceremony as State Representative Matt Ramsey and other area leaders signal the rally’s departure to Knoxville, TN. The event which will begin at 8:00 a.m. as competitors line-up to depart when the green flag waves at 9:00 a.m. For more information on the Finish Line Frenzy and Green Flag Ceremony please contact the Peachtree City Visitors Center at (678) 216-0282.

The Fireball Run’s Race to Recover America’s Missing Children is the largest active recovery effort for missing and exploited children in the country. Each team is assigned a child from their home region along with thousands of posters to distribute along the route. A decal featuring the child is affixed to the vehicle, creating a rolling milk carton. To date, this effort has assisted in the recovery of 36 missing children.

The Fireball Run Adventurally is a national event and filmed production is headquartered at the NBC Universal Studios in Orlando Florida. The 2011 Chevrolet Fireball Run Adventurally starts September 23rd on Florida’s Space Coast and concludes October 1st in the Mississippi Gulf Coast. The Benchmark of Excellence Certification (BEC) program presents the opportunity for destination marketing organizations in the state of Georgia to measure their practices and achievements against a defined set of competencies which serve to increase the overall professionalism and effectiveness of the organization.  A CVB who decides to seek the Benchmark of Excellence Certification is enhancing their organizations leadership development, providing a direction for professional development plans, both for the organization and individuals within the organization, and recognizing their CVB/DMO exhibits industry best practices. 

Working with a state-wide Review Board comprised of industry professionals, the Cunningham Center for Leadership Development (CCLD), based at Columbus State University, serves as the certifying agency.  Meeting the required standards earns the bureau/DMO the title of “Certification” or “Certified.” 

The certification process is offered exclusively to GACVB members.  Certification is valid for a term of three years, terminating on the anniversary of the most recent certification.

WWII HERITAGE DAYS

Annual festival combines history, entertainment for entire family

PEACHTREE CITY, GA (December 31, 2010) – “Remember Pearl Harbor!”, Rosie the Riveter, and Glenn Miller.  Experience the sights and sounds of the Greatest Generation when the Commemorative Air Force (CAF) Dixie Wing hosts the eighth annual “WWII Heritage Days” April 30-May 1, 2011.  The history festival will be held at The Historical Airpower Facility, Falcon Field, Peachtree City from 9am-4pm both days.  The weekend will again feature vintage aircraft, period vehicles, education displays, guest speakers and demonstrations, including mock battles between reenactors portraying American and Axis troops.  Local actors and singers will impersonate 1940’s celebrities and perform 1940’s musical hits throughout the weekend.

 “WWII Heritage Days is a community celebration that will entertain and educate the entire family.” said Jim Buckley, CAF Dixie Wing leader.  The event draws enthusiasts to Peachtree City from throughout the southeast.  Why turn a flying museum into a living history classroom?  “Our goal is to honor the Greatest Generation, the men and women who won the Second World War.” explained Buckley, who also flies several of the group’s aircraft.

 A weekend highlight is “Keep ‘em Flying”, a WWII-theme hangar dance featuring the Peachtree Jazz Edition.  Proceeds from the dance benefit historic aircraft preservation and “Education Through Living History”, the group’s WWII history program made available to schools and youth groups free of charge.   Sunday morning will begin with a jeep-top religious service familiar to millions of American servicemen during and since the Second World War.  Previously participating organizations include the Atlanta History Center, FDR’s Little White House, the U.S. Army Signal Corps Museum, 501^st Parachute Infantry Regiment (reenacted), Kelly’s Zeroes, and Atlanta World War II Round Table.  Local civic organizations and schools are also invited to create and display 1940’s exhibits.

“WWII Heritage Days” is an annual program that promotes education and patriotism.  The CAF Dixie Wing is a non-profit education organization that relies on fundraisers and donations to restore WWII aircraft and teach WWII history.  Admission for “WWII Heritage Days” is $5 for Adults, $3 for Children 5-18, Children 5 and under admitted free.  The public is also asked to bring a canned food item to be donated to the Fayette Samaritans food pantry.  “WWII Heritage Days” will be held rain or shine. Please no pets.
